Lebanon, Oregon- It was a full card of racing on Saturday, August 14th, at Willamette Speedway. Seven divisions were on tap, including three Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly Racing Program classes. They included Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Super Sports, Sportsman, IMCA Northern Sport Mods, Street Stocks, and IMCA Sport Compacts.

From Portland and in the Mitchell Family-owned entry, Joey Tanner took care of business in the Late Model division. Tanner now has two wins at Willamette Speedway in 2021. Salem’s B.J. Donofrio and Jeff Rash of Lebanon were second and third in the order. La Pine chauffeur Trent Elliott was fourth while John Dees got fifth.

Jake Mayden of Springfield slew the field in the IMCA Modified ranks. Mayden has three wins on the year, all in KMJ Performance Oregon State and Shaw Race Cars Western Region action, but it is his first victory at Willamette this season. Cottage Grove’s Curtis Towns was the runner-up, followed by Paul Culp from Creswell, in third. Scio veteran Steve Moore finished fourth, and Cody Jones, of Boring, hit the line fifth.

B.J. Donofrio, pulling double duty, took home the trophy in the Super Sports. Greg Heinrich, the veteran racer from Salem, was second in line over third finishing Shane Davis. Lebanon local James Slover and Brad Lehto were credited with fourth and fifth.

James Slover, another double-duty driver, hit pay dirt for the first time in Sportsman competition. Coburg pilot Kent Emry collected a second-place result while Albany’s Tahlan Rogers was third. Wes Roles and Alex Emry hit the line fourth and fifth.

The IMCA Northern Sport Mods were back in the house. Cottage Grove driver Justin Ryker won his second race at Willamette this season and in KMJ Performance Oregon State. K.C. Scott, of Springfield, placed second, with third going to Ric Jeffers.

Dakota Godard, from Albany, was the first to the checkered flags in the Street Stocks. Red McCombs of Albany put in a second-place performance, with Albany’s Matthew Drager getting third. Cottage Grove veteran Kelly McDonald ended the race fourth, with Lebanon racer Mikey Long finishing fifth.

Rex Eckley Jr., from Dexter, earned his second win at Willamette this season. Eckley now has two wins in KMJ Performance Oregon State competition. Salem gasser Scarlett Drake and Brad Martin of Dexter were second and third. Salem’s Andrew Wright managed to earn fourth with fifth going to Kerry Cooper, from Cottage Grove.

Willamette Speedway has a quick return to racing with action on Wednesday, August 18th. The Interstate Sprint Car Series and Dwarf Cars will compete for their Week Of Speed. Then Saturday, the 21st, is reserved for the $5000 to win IMCA Stock Car and $1500 to win 100 Lap IMCA Modified show. Late Models, IMCA Northern Sport Mods, and IMCA Sport Compacts will also be in attendance. For more information, check out the track website and Facebook pages.
