Inside Line Promotions – CHICO, Calif. (Sept. 11, 2017) – Jason Sides will wrap up the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series season on the West Coast this weekend when Calistoga Speedway hosts the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown.

Sides will compete at the half-mile oval in Calistoga, Calif., on Friday and Saturday.

“I really enjoy racing at Calistoga,” he said. “We’ve had some success there and it’s a track that suits my style so we always look forward to racing there.”

Sides was victorious at the track in 2011 and he finished on the podium during both World of Outlaws races there in 2015 during the most recent visit.

Sides is coming off frustrating finishes during the last three World of Outlaws events.

He qualified fifth quickest, finished second in a heat race and placed fifth in the dash last Wednesday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore. That lined him up on the inside of the third row for the A Main.

“We started off good,” he said “We qualified well and ran second in the heat race. The dash was so-so, but we were in the dash so it was good. We were good for a while in the main event and we had a caution. I was on the outside for the restart and lost a couple of positions. We went down into turn three. (David) Gravel had a run on the outside and turned down in front of me. That hit my right front and turned me into the infield. I never stopped, but there was enough dirt and dust they had to throw a caution. We were the last car on the lead lap at that point.”

Sides was running just inside the top 10 when the mid-race incident occurred. He ended the race with a 14th-place finish.

The team headed south for the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway. Sides opened the doubleheader on Friday by qualifying ninth quickest in his group. He ended fifth in a heat race to lock into the 17th starting position for the main event.

“In the feature the car kept getting over on the right front and was really tight,” he said. “We rode around and finished where we could without flipping or tearing anything up. After the race we found a bad shock so we thought we had a handle on it.”

Sides, who capped the night with a 19th-place result, wrapped up the weekend on Saturday. He timed in 13th quickest in his group before he placed seventh in a heat race. Sides advanced from seventh to fifth place and was making a bid for a transfer in the Last Chance Showdown when disaster struck.

“We got to fifth and on the last lap I caught Jacob Allen for fourth,” he said. “I ran into turns one and two real high and got a run. I got to him down the back straightaway. I was going in on the top in turns three and four. I don’t know if he hit the grease and slid up or if he heard me and moved up, but his right rear and my left front made contact and up and over it went.”

Sides flipped a couple of times and is working to rebuild his race car prior to this weekend’s shows at Calistoga Speedway
