With the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region on hand at Willamette Speedway on Wednesday July 2nd the Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman would take on the Street Stocks in the Sportsman versus Street Stock Challenge. The race was a non-point affair for both divisions and would produce an entertaining main event.

Jody Tanner of Portland was the early leader in his Wilburn Racing/Eastside Paving #36 Camaro come feature time. Tanner would stay out in front until lap eight when Ron Shinkle from Falls City would take over the position in his Johnny’s Towing/Highwallers Racing/Les Schwab Tires #42 Monte Carlo shortly after a restart.

Shinkle would lead some circuits before Lebanon’s Casey Rhoades would seize the top spot on lap twelve after Shinkle got a little too high in the turns. Shinkle would go elbows up and make up lost ground and would retake the lead coming to the white flag and win the race. It would be a huge victory for Ron Shinkle as it was also his first race back after being involved in a big wreck earlier in the campaign.

Casey Rhoades was second in his Hyer Convenience Store/SpinWare at the Heritage Mall/Sure Flow Concrete Pumping/Omen 5150 Tattoo #J55 entry followed by Salem’s Randy Jackson in third in the Precision Towing/Hillyer Tire & Wheel #24 Camaro. Jody Tanner was fourth while the top five was completed by Silverton native Rick Chambers in his Chambers Racing #12 Camaro in fifth.

Saturday July 5th Crocker’s Cars will present the action as the X-Factor Race Cars Super Late Models will participate in at one-hundred lap feature, the Firecracker 100. Also on the card will include the Wirth Wireless IMCA Modifieds and the Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman while once all of the racing has concluded there will be a massive FIREWORKS display. Pit Gates will open at 1:00 PM, the Pit Meeting will take place at 2:30, Front Gates open at 3:30, and Racing starts at 6:00. Prices are Adults $15.00, Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $13.00, Youths (Ages 12-6) $8.00, and Children under the age of 5 are FREE. For more information log on to www.trophymotorsports.com.
