Lebanon, Oregon- After a night off of racing Thursday the Wild West Modified Shootout were back in action at Willamette Speedway on Friday, June 29th. It would be the seventh race of the series and the first of two consecutive nights spent at the historical 1/3-mile clay oval. Thirty-nine race cars would be in the pit area from the states of Oregon, California, Washington, and Nevada as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Rob Mayea, in his first career start with the series, got to the front on the initial start. The Bend native was mighty fast while leading but unfortunately got caught up with a lapped car on the thirteenth circuit. Although Mayea retained the lead, due to not stopping, his car was inflicted with enough damage to take him out of contention for the victory.

On the restart Bricen James would blaze past Mayea and officially took over first place on lap fourteen. James, of Albany, would try and separate from the rest of the field but a handful of contenders would give chase. The race started to intensify as lapped traffic would come into the picture in the last laps. Bricen James would keep all challengers in check to win his first career Wild West Modified Shootout win. He is the sixth different winner in seven completed events.

Jesse Williamson, from Eugene, was second while Keizer’s John Campos was third. The top five would consist of Grey Ferrando, of Stayton, in fourth and fifth finishing Banks driver Greg Walters. John Campos, Grey Ferrando, and Vancouver, Washington’s Jerry Schram were the three consolation feature winners.

The Wild West Modified Shootout comes to a close on Saturday, June 30th for the eighth and final night of action. Pit Gates open at 1:00 PM, Front Gates 3:30, and Racing at 6:00. Tickets are Adults $16.00, Junior/Military/Seniors $14.00, Youth $10.00, Kids 5 & Under FREE, and the Family Pass is $55.00. Tickets can be purchased online at www.pnwdirtracing.com .
