David Cronk Wins Iron Giant Prelim At Willamette; Duty, James, and Moore Also Get August 30th Wins

Lebanon, Oregon- Willamette Speedway was back in action on Friday, August 30th after a few weeks off. The famed 1/3-mile clay oval witnessed four faces inhabit victory lane, all of which are familiar names at the Lebanon facility this season. The Iron Giant Street Stock Series on tap for their preliminary night for the big show on Sunday. Also, on tap were the Super Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, and Super Sports. The Big Sky Landscaping IMCA Stock Car series were on the card as well, and their race is covered in a separate race report.

Portland veteran David Cronk posted a massive win in the Iron Giant Street Stock Series feature. He now has two wins at Willamette in the current campaign while it is the second time he has won with the series this season. His son, Brian Cronk, was the runner-up while Gresham’s Kevin Roberts crossed the wire, in third. Steve Dubisar, of Coquille, ended his evening in fourth while Cottage Grove veteran Kelly McDonald, running for Tom and Joan Langan, was fifth. McDonald also won the evening’s consolation feature.

Mulino’s Justin Duty made a triumphant return to the winner’s circle in the Super Late Model ranks. Duty now has three wins in the class in 2019. Scio regular Steve Moore, racing for car owner Jody Tanner, was second while Jeremy Shank, from Salem, ended his night in third. Fellow Salem driver Doug Elkins placed fourth over fifth finishing Kye Frick, of Sweet Home.

Bricen James once again took care of business in the IMCA Modified ranks. The Albany standout picked up his eighth main event win this season in Lebanon. Grey Ferrando, of Stayton, was the driver to finish second over third finishing Brad Martin, from Warren. Gresham’s Cody Jones placed fourth while behind him, in fifth, was Lebanon pilot Cory Yeack.

Lastly, in the Super Sports Steve Moore inhabited victory lane. Moore, pulling double duty and racing for car owner B.J. Donofrio, earned his first Super Sport win on the year. Salem regular Chris Mott earned a respectable second-place finish while Vahn Stone, of Scotts Mills, was third. Robert Mercer got credited for fourth, and Lebanon’s James Slover wrapped up the top five, fifth.

Willamette Speedway returns to racing on Saturday, August 31st. The same five divisions will be back with the big race of the night being the Iron Giant for the Street Stocks. Front Gates open at 4:00 PM and Racing at starts at 5:00. Tickets are $14.00 for Adults, Seniors (62+)/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, and Kids (5 or Under) FREE with a Family Pass (2 Adults and up to 4 Youths) being offered for $35.00.
